SIMCAP®

Profile Solution's SIMCAP® Capacity Management and Business Modelling application is a fully-integrated and highly configurable system for balancing the supply and demand equation in critical workcentres. SIMCAP® may be used for managing bottleneck workcentres in production, 3rd party contract and laboratory environments without causing disruption to the Master Production Schedule. SIMCAP® is designed to operate in an integrated ERP/LIMs environment or in a stand alone configuration. It offers Planners, Master Production Schedulers and Operations Managers a robust and effective environment to visually view the effect and impact of different contingencies and scenarios on the manufacturing environment before making permanent changes within the ERP environment to the Master Production Schedule.

What is Capacity Management?

Modern manufacturing is about low cost high service supply of product to the customer on time. Within industry we refer to this as 'Lean Manufacturing' or 'World Class Operations'. To be truly 'Lean' an organisation must understand how long it takes to make it's products and how many machines and people it needs to achieve this. An organisation also needs to be able to understand and view the impact of changes in customer forecast and ordering  in order to identify and agree the level of capability of the facility. This capability is called 'Capacity'. Capacity Management is the process of reviewing and assessing your workcentres capability to produce your customer required products. Effective Capacity Management means that the plant has the right amount of Capacity available to meet upturns and/or downturns in customer demand without missing customer orders or having resources lying idle.

SIMCAP® balances Supply and Demand

SIMCAP® allows managers to balance supply and demand by providing one integrated application that brings together all variables that affect the capacity utilisation of the plant

Shift Patterns People Holidays
Training Validation Equipment
Run Rates Changeovers Trials
Forecasts Orders Campaign Sizes

Key Features of SIMCAP®:

Standard ERP download utility and scripts: SIMCAP® has an integrated download utility that allows it to easily interface with all ERP systems. This allows SIMCAP® to work in conjunction with the site's host ERP system. The advantage being that there is only one set of master data to be maintained

Visual tracking of key planning parameters: SIMCAP® provides quick visual aids to highlight demand requirements that do not meet the sites key production  parameter needs such as optimum campaign sizes, minimum order quantities etc.

Multi-size bucket selection: SIMCAP® provides functionality to view the capacity utilisation in various period divisions called buckets. These buckets are of 2 types, week based and calendar month based. Within each profile simulation the user may use any combination of buckets (same type) to provide themselves with a clear near in and high level long term view of the capacity needs

Scenario planning and simulation on key operational variables: SIMCAP® has several key features within it's profile setup. Core to SIMCAP® 's simulation capability is the ability to quickly view the impact on critical bottleneck workcentres of

Forecast Variability

Batch Failure Rates and the impact of lost production volumes

Yield Losses within the operation that generate additional unplanned requirements

Capacity assessment and profiling of non-product, non-ERP items that consume capacity: A key feature of SIMCAP® is it's ability to allow users to include items in the profile that consume capacity but that may not be managed in the ERP system. Such items may include

Stability testing

Preventative maintenance

Trials

Workcentre specific working hours calendars: SIMCAP® has the ability to host multiple calendars per workcentre allowing the user flexibility to view the impact of different work patterns on a workcentre's profile loading

Ability to manage automated and manual operations: SIMCAP® supports both machine based workcentres and manual people based workcentres. This is ideal for capacity managing the combination of both test equipment and analyst utilisation in the laboratory environment.

Full auditing and tracking of changes during modelling: A Key feature of SIMCAP® is it's auditing and tracking functionality. While the user balances supply and demand SIMCAP® tracks all the changes necessary to create the achievable profile with the workcentre for print out in user friendly format. This then forms the basis for Rough Cut Capacity Planning and other capacity reviews.

Real time modelling of data and potential scenarios within the profile allows the user to

Increased/reduced demand

Make changes in due dates

Change shop floor calendars

Change workcentre run rates

Change planning rules
